Methodology

How the tools work

The tools on this site are simplified planning tools. They are designed to help users compare options, not to produce an installation contract.

Estimate bands

Driveway cost outputs use broad finish-rate bands plus basic extras such as edging and drainage allowance. They are intended as budgeting ranges, not fixed prices.

Drainage gradient logic

Gradient outputs are based on simple fall-per-run logic. They help show whether a driveway run looks strong, workable or weak from a runoff point of view. They do not replace site-specific drainage design.

Planning-risk logic

The planning checker looks for common higher-risk patterns such as larger front-garden areas, non-permeable surfaces, runoff issues and crossover changes. It is a triage tool, not formal planning advice.

Editorial rule

If a tool cannot answer something honestly, the site should say so rather than pretend to have precision it does not have.
